Winnipeg City Council has passed a motion to direct the City auditor to review all contracts awarded to tree pruning service providers from the October 2019 storm event onwards to ensure the contracts were awarded in accordance with city regulations.
Concerned tree contractors are alleging unfairness in contract awarding, Coun. Shawn Nason (Transcona) said in his motion. He said the review is needed to reassure the business community the Cityâs procurement process is unbiased. He suggested some contractors are afraid to come forward for fear of reprisal, adding concerns have been raised that exceptions were made in the awarding of substantial bid opportunities to contractors and subcontractors who failed to provide bid requirements within a required five-day timeframe.
