Former Hydel High sprinter Charokee Young won the women s 400m on Friday s opening day of the Texas Tech Invitational at the Sports Performance Center s track.
Young, representing Texas A&M, ran a well-timed race to win heat two in 52.64 seconds, well ahead of her teammate Jania Martin, who clocked 53.59, which gave her third overall as there was no final for the event.
Syaira Richardson, also a teammate of Young, finished second overall after winning heat one in 53.28.
Bryce Deadmon (Texas A&M) was the top male 400m sprinter with his 45.29-second run. The next best was Dubem Nwachukwu (Arizona State) in 46.40.
