A Calfornia district attorney has dropped efforts to seek a new death sentence against Scott Peterson, who was convicted in 2005 of the murder of his pregnant wife and unborn child, according to a court filing.

A new interview with Scott Peterson revealed that he was surprised the jury found him guilty at his original trial of murdering his pregnant wife and unborn son.
Peterson, 48, was convicted in 2004 of murdering his then-27-year-old wife Laci Peterson, who was eight months pregnant at the time. He was also convicted of murdering his unborn son, Connor.
In the interview, which aired Friday on ABC’s 20/20, Scott Peterson delved into his state of mind during the trial, including his shock at the guilty verdict. (NEW YORK) Almost two decades after the disappearance and murder of his wife Laci Peterson and their unborn child, Connor, Scott Peterson says he is still seeking justice and and that his first trial was unfair.
Peterson was convicted in 2004 of first-degree murder in relation to his wife and of second-degree murder of their unborn son. He was sentenced to death by lethal injection in 2005.
Laci Peterson, who was 27 years old and eight months pregnant, disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. The remains of her and Connor were found in the San Francisco Bay in 2003, four months after she went missing.
