CANTON – City fire investigators have arrested a woman accused of setting her own home on fire in January after losing it to foreclosure.
The house at 604 Alta Place NW was owned by a health care company and the damage was so bad that it was torn down, according to Stark County court records.
Janet L. Caplinger, 66, of Market Avenue N, was arrested at 1 p.m Tuesday in the 3200 block of Cleveland Avenue NW by Canton Fire Department investigators on two aggravated arson warrants, according to Stark County Jail records.
She is accused of intentionally setting multiple fires inside the home around noon Jan. 9, which led to significant structural damage and the eventual demolition of the home due to an emergency tear-down ordered by the city of Canton, court records say.
