Hudson was built on the garden area beside the first renovation job at Maison
With a few projects under their belt, the vendors had a clear idea of what they wanted from this new block-built property, also at No95, that was to be named Hudson. Four bedrooms were a must, along with an open-plan living space with high ceilings and plenty of storage.
This large area at the back of the house has nearly become standard in suburban extensions, but O’Reilly insists we need to give these designs more thought.
“The battle of the large open-plan space is noise. There’s always a temptation to put in an awful lot of glass. Chances are you’re going to have a flat roof or a pitch with Velux roof lights and, typically, a tiled floor giving more surfaces to bounce noise off. Where’s the sound absorption there? You really have to think about the acoustics in these big spaces.”
