ENGINEERS say they have identified the problem which cased raw sewage to seep into Whittle Brook earlier this week. According to resident Michael Warburton, the rupture was producing a foul stench which had a reach of around 200 yards downstream. United Utilities say they have identified the problem and are planning to start repairs in the near future.
Sewage flowing into Whittle Brook on Monday A spokesman said: “We responded quickly to a report of pollution in Whittle Brook on Monday afternoon and found it to be a break in a sewer pipe. “We shut down the pipe the same day which stopped the problem and are now making preparations to repair the pipe as soon as possible.”
ENGINEERS are investigating after an ‘eruption of poo’ was reported flowing into a watercourse in Great Sankey this afternoon, Monday. A rupture has caused sewage to seep into Whittle Brook – and it is causing quite a smell for those living nearby. The stench has a reach of around 200 yards downstream, according to Great Sankey resident Michael Warburton who reported the leak to the relevant authorities. It is not known how long the rupture has been going for, but engineers are at the scene to find a solution. “I rang United Utilities pretty much straight away when I found it, but there is really no telling how long it has been there for,” Michael said.
