All customers are expected to be restored by 11 p.m. Thursday, but officials said many will be restored sooner. Duquesne Light officials said more than 22,000 customers lost power at the height of the storm. Allegheny County officials said Edgewood Borough has declared a state of emergency due to massive storm-related damage. In Wilkinsburg, there were branches down on a home and vehicle along the 1400 block of Penn Avenue. Thousands of people were left without power after storms rolled through the region Wednesday afternoon.
Duquesne Light reported around 11:45 p.m. that outages were affecting more than 7,500 people.
“Severe storms moved through our region this afternoon, causing widespread damage across our service area,” spokeswoman Ashley Macik said. “Crews are actively assessing the impact and will work around the clock until all service has safely been restored.”
West Penn Power had 35,800 customers without power around 11:40 p.m., according to the company’s website.
Gary George, 77, of Harrison was inside his home in the 1200 block of Carlisle Street when the storms struck.
