Washington High School sees recent upticks in COVID cases

While at least one Sioux Falls principal is reminding students of COVID-19 precautions and pointing to “recent upticks” in COVID-19 cases, district officials are reluctant to share specific numbers of their current COVID-19 case count as school year winds down. Washington High School principal Kari Papke emailed parents and students at WHS on Tuesday to remind them that with 31 school days remaining in the school year, they should continue to adhere to COVID-19 protocols. Papke wrote in the email that “recent upticks in COVID-19 cases” serve as a reminder to “return to our vigilance in wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands.”

Sioux 52 mentoring initiative stepping up recruitment efforts

By Anson Mareus Jan 21, 2021 7:52 PM SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) The Sioux 52 Mentoring Initiative is increasing its efforts in 2021 to encourage community members to start mentoring and businesses to be intentional about starting a culture of mentorship. Community leaders say that while the pandemic has made face-to-face mentorship relationships challenging, the need for mentorship is even more important than ever. Sioux 52, which was launched in January 2020, is a regional mentorship initiative led by Mayor Paul TenHaken and the Rotary Club of Downtown Sioux Falls. The goal of Sioux 52 is to recruit 5,200 mentors by 2026 and to encourage employers in the Sioux Falls area to motivate employees to give an hour each week 52 hours to those in need of mentorship.
