Big Brothers Big Sisters launches online Lotto raffle SHARE ON: Big Brothers Big Sisters British Columbians will have the chance to support Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) in their communities with a new online 50/50 campaign – Big BC Lotto – that will help agencies maintain mentorship programs and operations impacted by COVID-19. On top of the growing need for volunteers, the pandemic has caused increased strain on children and youth, BBSS says. “One in four kids says their friendships have been negatively affected by stay-at-home orders, and loneliness was the third most-used word by kids between the ages of 10 and 17 when describing how they’ve felt,” said spokesperson Jane Gauthier.

EGGcellent Cruise brought people out of their pandemic funk

An estimated 2,500 people took the opportunity to get away their screens and into the great outdoors to take part in 25 activities that made for an Easter weekend afternoon of fun. Cruisers were challenged at Pine Centre Mall and the City Hall/Rolling Mix Concrete Arena parking lots to try to find a character dressed in red and white stripes and wearing thick-rimmed glasses for a Where’s Waldo sighting. A fox on the run was playing hide and seek and posing for pictures from a safe distance at Moore’s Meadow and there was a moose on the loose entertaining the kids at Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park.

The Winter Warm Up is based off of our Big Squeeze fundraiser, which we ve been doing for a number of years and we do that one with lemonade, Jane Gauthier, community development coordinator, said. We thought we d duplicate that with a winter theme. Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking to expand their meetings between big brothers and little brothers and big sisters and little sisters to a virtual platform because of the pandemic so that s where the funds raised will be directed. Restaurants participating include Nancy O s, Betulla Burning, Montana s, Oakroom Grill, Browns Social House, Earls, White Spot and the Rockford Grill.
