Irish police attack sacked Debenhams workers In a calculated display of class violence, striking Debenhams workers in Dublin, Ireland, were manhandled and arrested late Thursday night as up to 60 Gardaí (police), some in paramilitary gear, dragged four workers, mostly older women, from the loading bay of the store in which many of them had worked for decades. The workers, part of a group of around 30, were trying to prevent Debenhams liquidator, KPMG, from removing stock from the store where they worked until April last year. One of the workers, shop steward Jane Crowe, described to RTE what happened, “We were forcibly lifted up. I was carried out. While they were carrying me out my jacket came off over my head, my jumper came off over my head. I was left with no clothes from the waste up and my under garments were broken as well. Dublin s Q102 By Mike Gilmore Gardaí forcibly removed the former Debenhams workers from the picket line on Parnell Street on Thursday night. Former Debenhams workers feel like a line has been crossed by the Gardaí, following Thursday night s heavy-handed efforts to remove them from the picket line.  They ve staged their strike for over a year now, preventing liquidators KPMG from removing stock, as they see it as a bargaining chip in negotiations.  A sizeable deployment of Gardaí arrived to the store before midnight and manhandled the strikers to allow KPMG to remove stock from the store.  Gardaí indicated that they were carrying out a court order to allow the liquidators to enter the store.

Henry Street Debenhams protest broken up by Gardaí By Kevin O Mahony Ex-workers were protecting stock from being removed from the Henry Street site. A demonstration was being held to prevent removal trucks from leaving with stock, that the former workers want to protect as a bargaining chip. When members of the Gardai came on the scene Shop Steward Jane Crowe says things became physical: 50 or 60 Gardaí came there; there was 30 staff on the loading bay. They ended up carrying us out, I was carried out and I was carried so forcefully that my coat and my top was taken off over my head and my underwear was broken.
