CEDAR LAKE â The Hanover Community School Corp. has chosen a leader to take the helm of its new upper elementary school.Â
Ryan Eckart, current principal at Jane Ball Elementary, is set to lead Red Cedars Elementary School when it opens in fall 2022.Â
The new, $23.5 million upper elementary school will serve students in grades 3-5, and gleans its name from the town s beginnings as the Lake of the Red Cedars, the Hanover Community School Corp. said.Â
Eckart told The Times as a member of the Hanover community, he is excited and honored to lead the new school and cannot wait until kids walk into that building for the very first day. It s going to be really special.
CEDAR LAKE â Thirteen Hanover students were the first to turn ground at the site of their future upper elementary school Tuesday.Â
The students, some from Jane Ball Elementary and others from Lincoln Elementary, will be a part of the first third grade class to occupy the new school come fall 2022, said Hanover Superintendent Mary Tracy-MacAulay. This school is for you guys,  Tracy-MacAulay said to the children. Every decision that is made in Hanover is always with the kids in mind first. Â
The first graders then cheered before taking their mini green and white metal shovels to turn dirt on the 20-plus acre site, south of Hanover Central Middle School.
