The city s longest-running modern dance company has hired a new executive director for the first time in almost 25 years. In June, Kim Gutfreund will join Dance Kaleidoscope as the 49-year-old company opens a new chapter in its first-ever permanent home, according to a release from the organization. Gutfreund recently led the Jackson School of the Arts in Michigan, which provides arts education. During her tenure, she collaborated with the City of Jackson in a public-private partnership to move the organization downtown, improve community connections and boost economic development. Before that, she was executive director of the Peter Sparling Dance Co. in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Like Dance Kaleidoscope artistic director David Hochoy, Sparling danced with the renowned Martha Graham Dance Co., whose founder is known as the mother of modern dance.
