The project is run by the nonprofit WeShine, one of a small but growing number of nongovernmental organizations that are getting managed villages populated by tiny sleeping pods.

The eateries, boutiques and attractions in downtown Franklin have made it a destination for visitors from all over the region.
But like small businesses all over the country, they are struggling, particularly as they deal with a dampened and unusual holiday season. Without support, the very businesses that make small communities such as Franklin special will disappear.
“Shop local first, so local lasts. There are all kinds of stores and restaurants closing, and it’s people in the community operating these,” said Lesa McDaniel Talley, co-owner of RFD Franklin restaurant. “If the community wants these small businesses to survive and I do think they want that they have to shop local. But they don’t always know how to do that easily.”
