Boulder Valley agreed this week to settle a discrimination lawsuit brought by a white family claiming the school district selectively enforced its discipline policies and created a racially hostile environment for their 9-year-old son at Boulder’s Whittier Elementary.
Latino students at BVSD are about 3.5 times more likely to be suspended than white students. The district and parents disagree on how to address the longstanding problem.
