The Election Commission of Pakistan has taken notice of a candidate of the upcoming by-election for Kurram s NA-45 distributing money among voters.
A video surfaced that showed Said Jamal, who was the runner up during the 2018 General Election, carrying a bag of money and giving the cash to some people.
The electoral body has asked Jamal to submit a written explanation of the video, and the district s returning officer has summoned him in person.
KURRAM: The Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, key members of the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement, have failed to agree on a joint candidate for the Feb 19 by-election in NA-45 (Kurram-I).
Sources told Dawn that both PPP and JUI-F were holding talks on the matter amid efforts by other PDM members to convince them for fielding a joint candidate against the ruling PTI’s nominee.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a list of 27 candidates for the by-election.
Though weather is harsh, the candidates are busy electioneering. A close contest is expected among Jamil Chamkani of the JUI-F, Fakhar Zaman of the PTI, Rafiullah Chamkani of the PPP and independent candidate Said Jamal.
