From Mirror staff reports Plans to construct a machine shop in Snyder Township received a positive review Thursday by Blair County Planning Commission members. Scott Breindel of Deadluck Manufacturing plans to construct a 4,000-square-foot machine shop at South Eagle Valley Road and Templeton Drive. In addition to the proposed building, paved parking and various landscaping will be provided. Additionally, a 2,140-square-foot building addition was shown adjacent to the proposed building. However, the addition will not be constructed at this time and was shown for future planning purposes. Access to the site will be through a 24-foot wide bidirectional driveway connection to South Eagle Valley Road, continuing to a 24-foot wide parking lot aisle and a maximum 30.1-foot-wide parking area along the southwest side of the site, said Jamie L. Klink, regional planner.

From Mirror staff reports Plans for Claysburg-Kimmel School District to upgrade its high school athletic facilities received a positive review from the Blair County Planning Commission. A new softball field, ADA accessible metal bleachers to replace the unsafe existing concrete bleachers at the football field, an outdoor basketball court, a field house, a concession stand, an indoor batting facility, a maintenance building, a potential future gravel overflow parking lot and various walking paths within the site are proposed. Claysburg-Kimmel officials did not return messages seeking comment. No changes to site access are planned, and the number of parking spaces will not differ drastically from the existing amount and the potential future gravel overflow parking lot should ensure that there is sufficient parking for athletic events, Jamie L. Klink, regional planner, said.

From Mirror staff reports Blair County Planning Commission members gave a positive review Thursday on plans for construction of a mixed-use building in Juniata. Dazzling Realty LLC plans to construct a 9,225-square-foot, two-story building at North Fourth Avenue and North Sixth Street, which will include commercial space on the first floor and apartments on the second floor. A paved parking lot, landscaping and sidewalks also are proposed in the plan. The parking lot will contain 13 spaces, including a single Americans with Disabilities Act accessible space. While the proposed amount of parking spaces does not seem excessive, the developer has not included any calculations showing that the proposed amount of parking will meet Altoona’s parking requirements.

wfrank@altoonamirror.com Plans for a condominium project in Frankstown Township received a positive review Thursday by Blair County Planning Commission members, who also gave their support to Logan Township’s plans to make improvements to Leopold Park. The Hopper Commons project in Frankstown Township calls for construction of six condominium buildings totaling 52 units on an 8.2-acre parcel along Brush Mountain Road. In addition to the proposed condominiums, a community building, maintenance building, playground, picnic area, parking lots, access drives, sidewalks, landscaping and stormwater management facilities are proposed. Access to the site will be through a 22-foot wide access driveway connection to Brush Mountain Road. The proposed access driveway, as well as the 22-foot driveway aisles through the site should provide adequate vehicle circulation and maneuverability within the site, said Jamie L. Klink, regional planner.

From Mirror staff reports Blair County Planning Commission members on Thursday gave a positive review to the Curry Building development plan on 11th Avenue. The plan calls for renovation and restoration of the former Vipond Building at 1425 11th Ave., now to be known as the Curry Building. The project consists of the construction of a small building addition to contain an elevator and stairway, and construction of a small pocket park, which will include a pavilion, park benches, an outdoor seating area, concrete walkways, landscaping and other improvements. Proposed uses of the renovated building include offices, education and education administrative offices.
