Jamie Steffel promoted to Brandon police chief

Jamie Steffel has been appointed the new police chief for the city of Brandon after the city council approved a promotion at the April 19 city council meeting. Steffel has been with the Brandon police department for the past seven years, most recently serving as a lieutenant.
He replaces Joe Weir, who resigned the position in late January, citing shortcomings in funding for the department.
The past seven years have been Steffel’s second stint with the department. He was an officer for four years before leaving for Florida to work at a Sheriff’s department before returning to Brandon in 2014.
