Some 200 former Remington Arms employees have been offered jobs with the new owners starting in February, according to a union official, but there are concerns.
Meanwhile, union members are continuing their fight for contractual benefits they say the old company still owes them.
Members of United Mine Workers of America Local 717 were at the intersection of Main Street and Central Avenue in Ilion Monday morning to call for the severance pay and unused vacation pay included in the union contract. Passing motorists waved and honked as participants held up signs and shouted chants.
“I say severance, you say pay,” one of the leaders called out.
