The first group was vaccinated Monday. Police and fire personnel are the only groups of front line essential workers approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health to receive vaccination in the Tier 1B group. Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney was among those to receive a vaccine Monday. “Working and maintaining the Dane County Jail, oftentimes we are seeing COVID present in some of our housing units and our Deputy Sheriffs, without regard are working day and night in those housing units. It’s important that they have the protection they need with this vaccine not only for themselves but for their families.”

Friends of the State Street Family is partnering with several local organizations to get homeless people to safe areas ahead of possible armed protests this weekend. Jasper Davis, who works with Friends and The Beacon homeless shelter to distribute items to the homeless, said after hearing about the possibility of protests, “My mind immediately went to ‘Oh my god, there’s homeless people that live within 100 feet of where those folks are going to be. ” Davis and other Friends staff members are working to put homeless people into hotels, shelters or provide alternate options for them to keep them away from any potential threat around the State Capitol.

According to Capitol Police, an individual may carry a concealed weapon in any space within the State Capitol, unless that person is prohibited from carrying a concealed weapon such as a convicted felon. Firearms are not allowed in the offices of the Wisconsin State Capitol police or in the Supreme Court. Legislative officers throughout the Capitol can choose whether to post a sign on their door to signify that firearms are not allowed in their offices.
