The local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Chirico responded to public calls against the extension of the shutdown in Parry Sound on Wednesday.
Dr. Chirico said case counts are much lower in the district of Parry Sound but it is important to note that it has two individuals with confirmed preliminary positive results for a Variant of Concern of unknown strain, who were exposed through Community spread.
In a call with MyParrySoundNow, Parry Sound Mayor Jamie McGarvey says those two cases do not change where he stands.
Published Saturday, February 20, 2021 6:22PM EST The extension of the stay-at-home order in North Bay-Parry Sound appeared to have caused some division within the region as some officials support the move while others are opposed. The province announced on Friday that Toronto, Peel Region, and North Bay-Parry Sound will not be rejoining the colour-coded reopening framework and remain shut down until March 8. Despite having low case numbers, concerns over a variant of concern (VOC) linked to an outbreak at an apartment building in North Bay prompted the province to delay the reopening in that area in northern Ontario. According to the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, 38 people have tested positive for COVID-19 at an outbreak at the Skyline-Lancelot Apartments. Of those cases, 20 have tested positive for a coronavirus variant, including one confirmed to be the B.1.351 variant that originated in South Africa.

Adam Skelly is no stranger to controversy and has decided to take up his issues about the lockdown to Ontario Superior Court. “There’s no other option. There’s no end in sight,” said Skelly at a press conference he called from his Leaside location of Adamson Barbecue. Skelly is still fighting several charges from this past fall, after opening his Etobicoke location restaurant despite orders against it.
