LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - On Wednesday, family, friends, colleagues and students mourned the loss of a Lauderdale County educator.
46-year-old Jamie Burks, who worked as the principal of Rogers High School, died over the weekend from COVID-19 complications.
His funeral was held today.
“It is a whole when you go through there and you don’t see them in there,” said Nathan Killen.
It’s a sober day for the Greenhill community.

Burks passed away from an illness over the weekend.

Burks was so loved by the community that more than 150 people came together last week to pray for him as he was in the hospital. His obituary talks about the positive impact he had on the community both as an educator and an active member of his church, but he was most known for being a loving family man.

The Lauderdale County School System posted this on their Facebook page saying, A loving husband, father, son, and Christian man, Mr. Burks meant so much to so many. As principal of Rogers High School, he was well-respected and greatly loved. The entire Lauderdale County school system mourns with his wife, children, parents, and the Greenhill community.

Just days after more than 150 people gathered to pray for his recovery from COVID-19 as he battled the virus at a Birmingham hospital, Jamie Burks, a beloved deacon and school principal, died Saturday from his illness. He was 46.
Burks worked for years as a deacon at Lone Cedar Church of Christ in Florence, Alabama, and was a principal at Rogers High School. His passing was announced Sunday by Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes, the oldest and largest leadership training program used by the Churches of Christ today.
