Winners of the University of Kentucky Intern of the Year and UK Employer of the Year awards were announced Thursday, May 6, in an evening Zoom ceremony coordinated by the James W. Stuckert Career Center and the Graham Office of Career Management at the Gatton College of Business and Economics. The annual awards recognize the achievements of students who have excelled in their internships over the past year, as well as honor the investment employers have made in UK students through opportunities, events and collaborations.
UK junior Lauren Hudson was named UK Intern of the Year. Hudson, a neuroscience and biology dual major from Edgewood, Kentucky, was honored for her internship work with Nathan Vanderford, assistant director for research at the Markey Cancer Center and assistant professor in the College of Medicine s Department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 14, 2021) Active alumnus and generous friend of the University of Kentucky James Stuckert will be honored by the national fraternity that he joined as a freshman at UK. The Supreme Executive Committee of Kappa Sigma Fraternity selected Stuckert as the 2019 Kappa Sigma Fraternity Man of the Year. Delayed due to the pandemic, a special banquet recognizing Stuckert will be held Saturday, April 17, on the UK campus.
Stuckert is an April 22, 1956, initiate of the Beta-Nu Chapter of Kappa Sigma at UK, where he graduated with a bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering in 1960 and an MBA in 1961. He was heavily involved in the fraternity as well as being a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Tau Sigma chemical engineering honorary. During his undergraduate years, he served as business manager for the Kentucky Engineering Magazine and was the Student Government Association representative from the College of Engineering.
Several students in the Creative Arts LLP course created messages for health care workers, patients and nursing home residents impacted by COVID-19.

UK provides incoming students the opportunity to live in a residential academic experience, referred to as the Living Learning Program (LLP). The Creative Arts LLP, housed in Holmes Hall, is a community for students who share like-minded art interests and similar academic majors within all colleges on campus. Programs and events hosted by Creative Arts Peer Mentors help students connect and collaborate with each other as well as faculty members within the College of Fine Arts and other groups on campus.
