(Shutterstock) MAHWAH, NJ Friends and Bergen County community members have used a GoFundMe page to share fond memories of Mahwah mom Massiel Deoleo, who died in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide over the weekend. The mother of three was shot to death by her ex-husband, James T. Cox, who, after a hours-long standoff with police, turned the gun on himself, the Bergen County Prosecutor s Office said. Yesenia Torries created the fundraiser page originally to raise money for Deoleo s funeral and three children. It s done that, collecting over $24,000 in just two days, but has also turned into a memory board for many who knew the beloved Mahwah mom.

Cox of Carlsadt murdered his ex-wife, 34-year-old Massiel S. Deoleo of Mahwah, NJ, and afterward committed suicide. On Saturday, April 3, at approximately 11:48 a.m., the Carlstadt Police Department received a phone call from a family member of Deoleo reporting her missing, stating that they were concerned for her well-being. The family member said the last person she was with was her ex-husband, Cox.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced the deaths of suspect James T. Cox, 43, and victim  Massiel S. Deoleo, 34, on Sunday. Carlstadt police said they got a call on Saturday morning from a relative of Deoleo. The caller reported her missing, and was worried for her well-being. They said the last person Massiel was with was Cox, who lived at 601 6th Street. Yet another family member called the Mahwah Police Department to check on Deoleo’s home. Cops found her personal property outside the residence.
