Calamar Building On Track For Fall Finish In Bourne

Calamar’s apartment building in Buzzards Bay, The Tides at Bourne, is expected to be completed and ready for people to move in sometime this fall. That was the assurance a representative of Calamar gave the Bourne Board of Selectmen this week. Jerry Hill, executive vice president for construction and development for Calamar, appeared before the selectmen during their remote meeting Tuesday, April 6. Mr. Hill told board members he is confident the building under construction off Main Street will be complete before the end of the year. The selectmen authorized Town Administrator Anthony E. Schiavi to write a letter to Calamar expressing the town’s dissatisfaction with the building’s progress. Mr. Schiavi’s letter cites board members’ concerns over “poor site conditions, lack of any substantial work occurring for many months and possible problems with long-term exposure of structural component to the elements.”

Mr Pickard Opines On Sewer Commissioners, Board And Committee Volunteers

Mr. Pickard expressed his feelings on a variety of issues during the committee’s remote meeting last Wednesday, March 31. Some of the issues he addressed included whether Bourne s town clerk should be appointed or elected, whether the town administrator needs to reside in Bourne, whether one person may serve as the chairperson of multiple town boards or committees, and whether the town should establish a board of sewer commissioners separate from the Bourne Board of Selectmen.

Bourne Selectman Accuses FinCom Chairwoman Of Multiple Violations

The 2021 campaign for election to two seats on the Bourne Board of Selectmen began with a bang. Incumbent Selectman James L. Potter has accused one of his challengers, Bourne Finance Committee chairwoman Mary Jane Mastrangelo, of a variety of peccadilloes, from Open Meeting Law and ethics violations to disrespecting town officials and bullying town staff. Mr. Potter’s diatribe came at the start of the selectmen’s remote meeting Tuesday night, March 30. He made his statement during the public comment period of the meeting’s agenda, which meant that Ms. Mastrangelo, who was in attendance, could not respond to the accusations.
