Wednesday, September 29, 2021 - Arriving in Deadwood in Dakota Territory just days after the death of Wild Bill Hickok in August 1876, businessman James Miller found the months-old mining camp in turmoil. By the time of his own death fourteen years later, Miller had gained a reputation as the “savior of Deadwood.” Still, he faded into obscurity at least until now. We visit with David Wolff, author of “The Savior of Deadwood, James K.P. Miller on the Gold Frontier.” ~~~ Tom Isern has a Plains Folk essay titled “Gray Hills.” ~~~ The Family Services Network supports parents of children born with disabilities stemming from fetal exposure to drugs or alcohol. Their primary work is with alcohol because of the way it impacts brain development. They’re currently advocating for the FASD Respect Act, legislation that would provide resources to address fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.
