Hamilton, Ill.- Authorities have announced the arrest of a Hamilton, Illinois man for attempted murder. According to a news release, at 12:37 AM Saturday, March 12th 2022, the Hamilton Police Department was dispatched to 331 N. 7th Street for a report of a man at the house with a gun. The initial report indicated that the gun had been fired in the house and that the suspect, 72-year-old James F. Carel of Hamilton, had threatened to shoot people at the residence. Carel was able to be disarmed by an occupant and subdued until law enforcement officers arrived. Carel was taken into custody and was transported to the Hancock County Jail where he awaits court proceedings. Carel is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Home Invasion, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The case is currently being investigated by the Hamilton Police Department.
