Moynihan Train Hall set to open in New York
NEW YORK Moynihan Train Hall, an annex to Manhattan s much-reviled Penn Station, will open to the public on New Year’s Day, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday as he cut a ribbon for the new facility.
The $1.6 billion hall, in the old James A. Farley Post Office Building across Eighth Avenue from the main station and Madison Square Garden, will serve as a waiting room for Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road passengers.

NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) The long-awaited expansion of Penn Station, a major city and interstate rail-transit hub in New York, into the James A. Farley Post Office Building will be completed by New Year s Eve and trains will roll into the new Moynihan Train Hall starting Jan. 1, according to New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo at a ceremony held in the new hall on Wednesday. New Yorkers have known for decades that Penn Station needed to be reimagined, and after years of work, the Moynihan Train Hall will open on time and on budget at the end of 2020, Cuomo was quoted as saying in a statement.
The premium Metropolitan Lounge will offer expanded food and beverage offerings for select travelers (Architecture and Interiors – FXCollaborative).
Among the Train Hall’s features:
• A 92-foot-high skylight over an atrium that is approximately the size of the Grand Central Terminal’s Main Hall.
• Designated customer service locations for each railroad.
• Dozens of LED and LCD displays for train information and messaging.
• A free public Wi-Fi network (Wi-Fi 6).
• A waiting room for customers with tickets; Red Cap Service; and a premium Metropolitan Lounge, providing select riders with expanded food and beverage offerings.
• A dedicated lounge for nursing mothers.
The Train Hall will be open between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily; Penn Station will remain accessible 24/7.
