A mother stabbed her husband in the shoulder with a kitchen knife after a row broke out at the family home in Plymouth, a court heard.
Mum-of-two Hilary Bailey, aged 56, lashed out with an eight-inch blade after he had hit her repeatedly to the head.
Mr Bailey lost so much blood that he passed out as his wife of 30 years called the police in hysterics, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

A sex fiend faces jail for sexually assaulting a schoolgirl in the street.
The teenager was left in tears after 41-year-old Michael Cooper put his hand up her skirt, a court heard.
Cooper told his trial that he was the victim of mistaken identity and someone else had molested the girl on her way to school in Southway.

A cheating grandmother who pocketed almost £35,000 in benefits is being forced to sell her home to pay back her ill-gotten gains.
Lying Karen Cooper, aged 54, claimed she could hardly walk when she had two physical care jobs, a court heard.
Now Cooper has returned to Plymouth Crown Court almost two years after her conviction under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Kate Waddington suffered none of Sydney s usual middle class angst over where to send her twins James and Mia to high school. We are just really lucky to live in an area where the local public schools are fantastic, she said. We re pretty keen on public education as well, and it s easy when the local schools are that good. There s certainly a fairly high-socio economic demographic here, and that does help to a very large extent as well. It certainly doesn t do any harm.
