GOBLES, MI Just a short road trip from Kalamazoo is a roadside stand known for its craft barbecue.
Pigs Head Barbecue was founded by Gobles native James Sluss, who had a passion for smoking meats. Using an old 1950s Philco fridge smoker that he built himself, Sluss turned that passion into a catering business in 2012.
After a few years, his wife Michelle convinced Sluss to start up his own roadside stand. He branched out to bigger and better smokers and, in 2017, opened a stand in downtown Gobles. In October 2020, Pigs Head left the roadside tent behind and stepped up to a food truck.
