The Australasian Orphanage in Lebanon was an unexpected outpost of Antipodean generosity in the years after World War I. Two Cantabrians, John and Lydia Knudsen, opened the orphanage in 1922 in the pretty seaside town of Antelias, long since absorbed into greater Beirut.
