We can see from your radar the heaviest rain is expected to be coming down in the Santa Cruz Mountains. That means highway 17, look at this earlier, will be and has been treacherous. Nbc bay areas robert honda is joining us on the summit of 17. Robert, all of this rain is good and bad news. Reporter thats right, roj. When youre in a drought rain is not a bad thing but it obviously can make bad things happen. There were some stormrelated traffic accidents on highway 17 today and a lot of close calls. The rain and fog made visit a real problem. A car overturned on the northbound side around 3 30 p. M. , shortly before that also northbound, philip spun out in his white truck, causing a crash, a traffic jam, and an emotional pileup. I hydro plained and started going towards the Center Divider so i swerved right and then
Possible. You see the smashed glass there in front of the wells fargo bank. And the camera pulling back now, showing more demonstrators up and down telegraph. We have seen violence up and down that street for the past half hour or so. This all started actually around 5 00 this afternoon. A march by hundreds of people. Peaceful for several hours. But about 9 00 tonight, protester moved on to eastbound highway 24, blocking traffic. When officers moved on toe clear the highway, they say someone threw some type of explosive at the chp. Take a look at video we have right now of what the chp did at that point. Lets just say that they detonated tear gas and the crowd dispersed. The crowd rushed away. The tactic worked. The clairemont exit off of 24 was cleared. And the chp says they did that in response to an explosive being thrown at them. This was a scene a few minutes earlier on eastbound 24. Traffic brought to a stand still. Crowds chanting and waving signs. Some demonstrators hurling roc
Devastating for the region, making it the second costliest hurricane in the nations history. But what was worse than the actual devastation caused by sandy was the fallout that had nothing to do with the storm and everything to do with politics. If you think the recent 16day shutdown is the first sign that republicans are willing to break all the political rules in order to destroy government, not even close. Because the willingness by members of congress to choose not to vote for sandy relief was unprecedented. Remember, Superstorm Sandy made landfall in the u. S. Just before the president ial election between president barack obama and former massachusetts governor, mitt romney. But the election did not stop president obama from responding. He put Campaign Battleground travel on hold to tour the stormbattered coast of new jersey on october 31st. And his Immediate Reaction was to address the needs of the hurricane victims most in need. And it earned him the admiration of the republica
This morning my question, what in the world was Justice Scalia talking about . And just thinks that people are making out like bandits. And once again, Congress Plays lucy to the american peoples Charlie Brown. Good grief. Good morning, im melissa harrisperry, and today, it is saturday march 2nd. Remember last saturday when i said that in less than a week 85 billion of automatic spending cuts would begin to take effect, and spending cuts that no one wants and leaving americans to take furloughs or job layoffs . Well, happy sequester day, because the sequester is here, and it looks like it is here to stay, because even though the congressional leadership met with president obama at the white house yesterday morning, nothing came of it. Both camps came out with the same talking points they had when they started the meeting. Republican House Speaker john boehner moseyed on out of the white house with the same ole same ole to offer. Make it clear that the president got the tax hikes on jan
Im Jessica Yellin in for erin burnett. Outfront tonight breaking news. Making the case for war. President obama directly addressed the possibility of a strike against syria just moments ago in an interview with pbs the news hour. We have not yet made a decision but the International Norm against the use of chemical weapons needs to be kept in place. And nobody disputes or hardly anybody disputes that chemical weapons were used on a large scale in syria against civilian populations. We have looked at all of the evidence and we do not believe the opposition possessed Nuclear Weapons or chemical weapons of that sort. We do not believe that given the Delivery Systems using rockets that the opposition could have carried out these attacks. We have concluded that the Syrian Government and if so there need to be international consequences. We are consulting with allies and international community. I have no interest in open ended conflict in syria. We have to make sure that when countries brea
