In 1906, four African American men attempted to develop an elite suburb for African Americans along Wisconsin Avenue between Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights, Maryland. Despite facing intense hostility from adjacent white landowners, at least 28 people bought lots. However, their vision was ultimately undone using subtler methods, showing how nominally race-blind tools can serve racist ends.
As we talk about in our video presentation on the subject for the DC Archives Advocates, this story breaks down what happened in a development known as Belmont, Chevy Chase and what the story meant in the history of the suburbs and the racial geography of DC, connecting Friendship Heights in Montgomery County to Glenarden in Prince George’s County on the other side of DC.

Extreme drought conditions in the northern portion of our area have triggered federal assistance for farmers and ranchers that started Saturday, May 1st.
The Livestock Forage Disaster Assistance Program, or LFP for short, is designed to provide financial assistance to farmers and ranchers in drought-stricken areas.
Counties in extreme drought conditions, or D3, automatically are eligible for this assistance. in the Black Hills Region, this includes Meade, Butte, Harding, Perkins and Ziebach county.
Dyer Claims Controversial Victory Over Lee in Portman Cup

Kieron Dyer claimed a controversial 4-3 victory over his fellow academy coach Alan Lee in this season’s Portman Cup at Portman Road on Friday. The pair took charge of two teams of fans who had paid for the privilege of gracing the hallowed turf.
The players arrived at Portman Road at 1.30pm to find their kit laid out in the dressing rooms, just as the real teams would be on a Saturday afternoon.
Prior to kick-off, the sides were introduced to their managers before taking part in a warm-up on the practice pitch and being given a team-talk.
