Letter: Electric cars for all is just not viable option

Reading the article by James Mutch that Bolton is lagging behind with charging points, the truth is the country as a whole will not have the required charging points to facilitate the move from petrol and diesel in the foreseeable future. There are approximately 40 million cars in the country and under 30,000 charging points. The fact that around 80 per cent of the housing stock in Great Britain have on street parking only, means these cars cannot be charged at home. Power cables across the pavement? I think not. Solicitors would make a fortune in accident claims. We are being rushed into something that is financially not viable. The cost of an electric cars is out of the price range of all those but the wealthy and our diesel and petrol cars will have no trade in value.
