ASHEVILLE — A collaborative effort to restore forests in the Southern Appalachians is getting a boost from the USDA Forest Service through the Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program.
The Pisgah and Nantahala national forests are now operating under a new management plan, ending an arduous, 11-year process to revise an existing plan.
The plan sets out a strategy to restore the ecological integrity of ecosystems and watersheds within the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. It also prioritizes sustainable recreation to accommodate expanding visitation in one of the nation’s most popular national forests.
