Portland General Electric announced a series of reforms Friday designed to prevent the kind of “ill conceived” energy trades that cost the utility $128 million last summer.
PGE said two employees responsible for the trades are no longer with the company and said it will withhold annual bonuses from the executive team following the debacle. The company’s investors must eat the losses: PGE says it won’t try to recoup that money by charging customers more.
PGE has never explained just what happened but said last summer that extreme weather conditions, power transmission constraints and changes in western power supplies left the utility exposed financially.
