th, you may notice some of the main Alton thoroughfares will be closed for an hour or so in the early afternoon. The Alton Branch NAACP will host the inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King Day celebration parade. A motorcade is being used to honor the life of Dr. King this year due to public health concerns.
Rather than gather in an enclosed area this year, Rosetta Brown, Second Vice President of the Alton NAACP says they came up with the idea of having a motorcade instead. She tells The Big Z once they get to James Killion Park at Salu, there will be a short ceremony.

The office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal has released the Christmas tree drop-off locations for your tree recycling needs. Dried out Christmas trees can be a fire hazard and also a mess to deal with.
Alton has several tree recycling locations. You can drop your old tree off at Riverview Park on Park Avenue, at Haskell Park at 1211 Henry Street, at James Killion Park at Salu, and at the Former Great Central Lumber Lot located at the foot of Henry Street.
Foster Township also has a drop-off location at the Township Garage located at 4754 Fosterburg Road in Alton, and those in East Alton can drop off their trees at the City Garage located at 331 Playground Court.
