Invercargill college students praise teacher for their success

The head of James Hargest College s music department is the driving force behind its students excelling in the performing art, year 12 pupil Aiden Hosie says. Invercargill singer-song writer Holly Muirhead is eager to perform in country music’s New Zealand Entertainer of the Year. The event is in Taupō in October, and Muirhead will take her last opportunity to qualify by performing at an awards evening in the Waikato in July. Voting papers for Invercargill Licensing Trust’s by-election are set to be sent out this week. Logan Savory caught up with the five candidates in the running for the vacant seat. Supplied Louise Evans Louise Evans wants to provide a younger voice around the Invercargill Licensing Trust board table. Evans left Invercargill as a 17-year-old and lived in various parts of the globe before falling in love with her home city when she returned for a visit.

Robertson also won gold in the high jump and was part of the James Hargest College team which won the under-15 boys 4x100m relay. Southland Boys High School s James McLeay also impressed in the under 15 boys age-group by claiming the 3000m title and he finished third in the open steeplechase. Wakatipu High School s Eliana Collins was the star in the under-15 girls winning the high jump, finishing second in the triple jump, and third in the 80m hurdles. In the under-16 girls age group Kennedy Taylor yet again impressed finishing first in the open steeplechase, while Wakatipu High School s Samantha Fookes won the 800m title.
