It was in this courthouse in palo alto that the swimmer brock turner was sentenced to six months in jail for Sexual Assault and this morning the Santa Clara County district attorney, jeff rosen, whose office tried this case, he pushed for legislation that he helped write, a new law, if passed, would make sure that no one like brock turner gets a light sentence again. This would make probation no longer an option for people convicted of Sexual Assault of an unconscious or drunk person. The mandatory minimum would be three years in jail. Up to eight years, as the law currently stands, jail time is only mandatory in cases in which the victim is conscious.
