How ABC Radio Sydney s James Valentine found his talkback mojo

Advertisement There’s an instant logistical problem to lunching with ABC Radio Sydney veteran James Valentine: he’s been unfamiliar with the concept for nearly 25 years, ever since he first started hosting the afternoon slot - 12.30pm to 3.30pm daily − on what was then called 2BL. “No one’s interviewed me for years”; ABC Radio Sydney broadcaster James Valentine. But now we stay on a digital station, even when the cricket’s on. I haven’t had lunch for a very long time.”

Music doco Australian Made is a welcome way of remembering rock greats

AUSTRALIAN MADE ★★★½ Documentaries on music festivals capture a moment in time, but our perceptions of that snapshot keep changing: relevance becomes a revival, urgency a memorial. First released in 1987, Australian Made depicts the series of outdoor gigs that played the country’s six state capitals between December 26, 1986 (Hobart) and January 26, 1987 (Sydney). The day-long bill featured INXS, Jimmy Barnes, The Divinyls, The Models, and more. Many of the acts were at their peak, yet most would be eclipsed, whether in prominence or purpose, within five years by the advent of alternative rock.
