This morning, the firefighters battling the blazes are mourning
Destroyed and on the edge of the inferno, firefighters risking their lives to save peoples property. I heard this loud explosion and ferocious noise. Reporter about 70 miles away, same story, different terrain. Crews moving to contain the fire that has been torching forest pines. We see flames in excess of 100 feet. Reporter the rocky fire is the biggest at 18,000 acres. All across california, 23 large fires are burning in the midst of a severe drought. With that drought, comes dry vegetation and wind conditions make the potential for firefighting dangerous. Reporter the governor declared a state of emergency and National Guard to help crews on the ground. This morning, firefighters start another dangerous day of trying to contain the flames. And this weekends weather is expected to make conditions more dangerous. Red flag Warnings Issued in the northern part of the state and dry thunderstorms, the worst kind for firefighters are expected to bring heavy lightning and strong wind. Erica
