HOSPITAL chiefs are “cautiously optimistic” as the number of covid patients continues to show a steady decline a Teesside trust. But continued pressures on an intensive care unit have sparked a fresh warning the region “isn’t out of the woods yet”. Figures from South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust show there’s been a drop in people on wards as well as a welcome fall in virus patients in critical care. A total of covid 101 patients were being treated at trust sites on Tuesday – with 15 in intensive care. This is down from last week when 128 patients were on wards and 23 people were receiving top level critical care (February 22).
