8th Circuit judges generally get high marks in attorneys' evaluation

Judges in the Eighth Judicial Circuit got generally favorable ratings from attorneys in the 2021 survey by the circuit Bar Association. The annual evaluation is intended to help inform the public about judges by providing perspective from attorneys who practice before them. “We don’t analyze. We compile the data we receive and give it to the chief judge of the circuit and to the federal court district,” Bar President Philip Kabler said. “It’s a public service. We are public stewards and this has been going on for a long time.” Circuit and county judges are elected, though some may first earn a seat through appointment by the governor to fill a vacancy. The Eighth Circuit is comprised of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy and Union counties.

Florida Man Gets One Year In Jail For Fatally Shooting Black Man

Gardner Kent Fraser to one year in jail for the shooting death of 31-year-old Dominic ‘DJ’ Broadus in 2018. The sentence isn’t for murder, however, it’s for tampering with evidence.  After fatally shooting Dominic, Fraser, the son of a former Sheriff Deputy, removed his phone from the scene. Investigators never recovered the phone, but they did find 115 phone calls and 35 text messages between the men. Dominic’s father claims Fraser killed his son to hide their sexual relationship.  “In an effort to try and keep his secret, he fatally shot my son in the back of the head twice and tried to destroy any evidence of their relationship by deleting all text from his phone and destroying/hiding my son’s phone, then calling three people before reporting the shooting to the proper authorities,” DJ’s father,
