He tells me with his extensive collection of more than 1100 First Edition president ial biographies dating the founding of the republic. After graduating with distinction from stanford university, david has held a has career positions as radio sportscaster. A consultant, an executive in the federal government and as Risk Management expert. His leadership positions in government spanned the department of defense, the Government Accountability office and the Internal Revenue service. I have been so passionate about history for well over half my life. I first got into president s when i was seven years old. My mother brought me this book called so you want to be president . George andudith st. David small. I actually dont know why she bought me the book. I think she offered to tell me at one point that i declined because i like the mystique about it. Brian have you read the whole book . Kurt it was a very thin book. When i really liked was the illustrations. It was my first exposure to president s and i found the illustrations very funny. There is William Howard taft, who famously got stuck in the bathtub at the white house. When david smalls illustrations did was they showed president taft being lifted out of the bathtub with an industrial crane. There is an operator wearing a hard hat lifting taft out of the bathtub while he is holding a champagne glass and turkey leg. Stuff like that got me interested in president s in general. No my little experience in electoral politics, some of you might know i was on the Durham City Council in a previous lifetime, and it seemed to me then that one very important thing in politics is to understand your opponent, and understand where theyre coming from, what motivates them, and what theyre really trying to do. As this shows that our understanding of what is called sometimes the radical right or the all rate or the libertarian right has been very limited and there has been a philosophy and a strategy that goes back decades that is behind much of what we see in politics now and so, i think there are a few things that can be more important for those of us who dont agree with that kind of politics and to read this book, understand it, and i think wil
