Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s signature Thursday gave the final approval to adding a third judge to handle the increasing caseload of wills and estates, guardianships and conservatorships, and mental commitments at the county courthouse in Mount Clemens.
James Biernat, who was appointed to the bench in 2011, was first named chief judge in 2015 after John Foster retired. Biernat also serves as chief judge of Macomb Probate Court and both divisions of the county court, 42nd District Court, in Romeo and New Baltimore.
The fundraiser did not have to be reported as a political action committee because Donn Fresard and the judges followed state law by each of the trio of judges collecting a proportional share of the proceeds and each judge reporting them as revenue in campaign finance reports, the state says.
WARREN Incumbent City Councilman Eddie Kabacinski filed a lawsuit in Macomb County Circuit Court on Aug. 18 against three candidates, the Warren Election Commission and the Warren city clerk for allowing those candidates on this year’s primary election ballot.
