Jersey City man sentenced to five years following shooting

Hudson Reporter Jersey City man sentenced to five years following shooting × U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo sentenced Jamel Armfield, 20, of Jersey City, previously convicted of three felonies, to 60 months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition in connection with a June 2020 Jersey City shooting. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Armfield previously pleaded guilty by videoconference before Arleo to an indictment charging him with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. On June 24, 2020, Armfield fired nine rounds of ammunition at a moving vehicle on Gates Avenue in Jersey City from a .45 caliber Springfield Armory semi-automatic handgun, Model XD-45 ACP. He also had in his possession several rounds .45 caliber ammunition.

Hudson County View By John Heinis/Hudson County View Jamel Armfield, 20, of Jersey City, previously pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo to an indictment charging him with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Arleo imposed the 60-month sentence earlier today. On June 24, 2020, Armfield knowingly possessed a .45 caliber Springfield Armory semi-automatic handgun, Model XD-45 ACP, and 14 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition when he fired nine rounds of ammunition from that handgun at a moving vehicle traveling on Gates Avenue in Jersey City. The motive and intended target(s) remain unknown. The shooting was captured on a nearby surveillance camera. The firearm was then hidden by Armfield and recovered by members of the Jersey City Police Department and it contained five additional rounds of ammunition.
