Covid: 1,647 new cases with 9 deaths recorded — Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 1,647 new cases of Covid-19, with nine fatalities today said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. He said there were 2,104 recovery cases, taking the cumulative recoveries in the country to 300,620. “From the total new cases today, 1,642 cases were local transmissions involving 1,102 locals and 540 foreigners while five more cases were imported,” he said in a statement on the development of Covid-19. Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor was still reporting the highest number of daily infections with 712 cases followed by Johor (170 cases) and Penang (169 cases). Meanwhile, 147 cases are being treated at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 61 patients requiring respiratory assistance.

Covid-19: Cases linked to construction, factory workers among three workplace clusters detected

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has recorded five new Covid-19 clusters which were detected in Selangor, Johor, Melaka and Sabah. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his daily Covid-19 updates said three of the clusters are workplace outbreaks. The Tapak Bina Jalan Kenangan cluster in Klang, Selangor involves workers of a construction site in Meru. “The positive cases were found from a targeted screening exercise conducted at the construction site. A total of 121 individuals were screened and 31 positive cases were found,” said Dr Noor Hisham. The Teknologi Tenggara cluster in Johor involves workers of a factory in Jalan Kluang, Batu Pahat.

Malaysians made up the vast majority of the new cases (67.1 percent). Most of them were reported in the Klang Valley (48.6 percent) followed by Johor (10.32 percent) and Sarawak ( Malacca because of an outbreak at an immigration detention centre.  Active cases: 17,544 Klang Valley which currently accounts for 35.3 percent of all Covid-19 deaths in the country.  The country s Covid-19 death toll stands at 1,200. One of the victims - a Malaysian woman, aged 58 - was brought to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital, Batu Pahat only after she died.
