Alachua County NAACP President Evelyn Foxx said she never thought she would see a white police officer found guilty of murdering a Black man during the course of his duties.

Chanae Jackson, 41, is a lifelong Gainesville resident. She is a mother of four with two grown sons who said she lives in fear they will be mistreated by police. I m numb but just overwhelmed with emotion but in a very positive way. There s hope, Jackson said. I try to celebrate some of the wins, but it s very difficult to fully enjoy those wins because we never know what s around the corner.
