David Wagga Hunt Scholarship Foundation Red Carpet Ball goes virtual

The late David Wagga Hunt. The premier fundraising event of the David Hunt Scholarship Foundation - the Red Carpet Ball - will be held virtually this year, on Sunday, January 31, and will be streamed live on YouTube, starting at 7:00 pm. The fundraising event joins a long list of events that have moved online due to the coronavirus pandemic. The spectacular evening will be held under the distinguished patronages of the Jamaican Ambassador to the USA Audrey Marks, and principals Dave Myrie and Albert Corcho of Kingston College (KC) and Calabar High School, respectively. The two-hour-long program will feature the scholarship recipients of Calabar and KC alumni, and parents. The public will get the chance to learn more about the program through vignettes and carefully curated content, which will showcase the institutions and the students under their charge.

Diplomatic appointments to Mexico, India and Belgium announced

Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, has announced three new diplomatic appointments. They are Ambassador-designate Sharon Saunders –Mexico, High Commissioner-designate Jason Hall to India, and Ambassador-designate Symone Betton-Nayo –Belgium. In welcoming Saunders’ appointment, Johnson Smith noted, “as a highly experienced diplomat, Ambassador Saunders has acquired expertise in bilateral and multilateral affairs, as well as extensive strategic engagement with the Jamaican Diaspora and the deepening of bilateral and regional relationships, including in CARICOM and the ACS. I am confident that she will use the opportunity of this new diplomatic assignment to continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Jamaica and Mexico as well as the rest of Central America, including in the areas of trade and investment.
