ALOR SETAR: Nauseating and too dirty - that was how Kedah Immigration Department director Zuhair Jamaludin described what his enforcement team found when they stumbled on an unlicensed sundry shop on the top floor of a shophouse in Jalan Teratai 1, Amanjaya, Sungai Petani.
The illegal sundry shop operated by undocumented migrants was not only selling grocery items such as live chicken, vegetables and other food items but also selling clothes.
Zuhair said a total of six Bangladesh nationals were detained by the state Immigration Department during the operation code-named Ops Sapu on Saturday (Feb 13).
He said during the raid, 49 people were checked at nine different locations in the district and 17 enforcement personnel members and officers from the state immigration unit were involved in the six-hour operation which ended at 11pm.
