IPOH: A former civil servant was fined RM40,000 at the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to two counts of receiving gratification for himself totalling RM25,500 three years ago. Judge S. Indra Nehru also ordered Herman Ibrahim, 46, a former cultural officer at the Perak State Secretary’s Office to serve eight months’ jail for each count if he failed to pay the fine. Herman pleaded guilty to the charge of receiving gratification of RM7,500 from the company owner of Pro Explore Event Management, Mohd Zulkhibri Abdul Mutalib, at a Public Bank branch in Jalan Sultan Idris Shah here on Nov 15, 2018, when he was serving as an agent to Perak Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2018 Secretariat.

At Monday’s proceedings, lawyer Khairilazwar Khalil, representing Herman Ibrahim, 46, a former Kumpulan Selendang Perak Cultural Officer at the State Secretary’s Office,  asked the court to set a new date for mention for plea bargain proceeding. Khairilazwar told the court that the defence would write a letter of application to the prosecution for a plea bargain.
